Trevesia palmata

Trevesia palmata, commonly known as Snowflake Aralia or False Aralia, is an intriguing and somewhat unusual evergreen shrub or small tree native to Southeast Asia, particularly regions of China and Vietnam. It is characterized by its distinctly shaped, deeply lobed leaves that radiate from a central point, resembling a snowflake or an open palm, hence its botanical and common names. These glossy, dark green leaves can be quite large and give the plant a bold, tropical appearance.

While it can reach heights of up to 4-5 meters in its native habitat, it typically remains smaller when cultivated as an ornamental plant, especially indoors. Trevesia palmata prefers a warm, humid environment and bright, indirect light, although it can tolerate some shade. It requires well-draining soil and moderate watering, allowing the topsoil to dry out slightly between waterings. It is not frost-hardy and needs protection from freezing temperatures. In cultivation, it is primarily grown for its unique and architectural foliage, which adds a touch of exotic elegance to interiors and sheltered outdoor spaces in warmer climates. It may occasionally produce clusters of small, inconspicuous flowers followed by dark berries, but these are not its primary ornamental features.
