Appearance: The mickey mouse plant is a slow-growing, semi-evergreen shrub with a loose, open habit. It typically grows to 4-8 feet tall and 3-4 feet wide, but can occasionally reach up to 20 feet tall.

Leaves: The leaves are elliptical, finely toothed, and glossy green, with young spring foliage emerging a beautiful pinkish-bronze color. They measure up to 3 inches long and are arranged alternately on the stems.

Flowers: Fragrant yellow flowers bloom in spring to early summer at the branch tips. The petals are about 2 cm in diameter and drop soon after the flower opens, revealing clusters of small fruits suspended below bright red sepals.

Fruit: The fruit is a small, fleshy, one-seeded drupe that starts green and turns black when ripe. The combination of the rounded red sepals and black berries sometimes resembles the face of Mickey Mouse, hence the common name.
