Musa zebrina, also known as Blood Banana, is an ornamental banana tree. It’s native to Sumatra, Indonesia.

Description

Size: A dwarf grower that usually reaches 10 to 12 feet tall.
Leaves: Blue-green leaves with red blotches on top and solid maroon bottoms. The undersides of the leaves and the trunks are also red.
Fruit: Small-seeded fruits that are edible.
Hardiness zones: Grows in USDA hardiness zones eight through 11.
Sunlight: Needs sun to help its foliage and blooms grow.

Musa zebrina is a variety of the wild banana Musa acuminata.
It’s a great plant for large containers or in the landscape.
Container-grown plants can be overwintered indoors if given ample space in a sunny location.
