The term “single peetal” specifically indicates a variety with single-petaled flowers, as opposed to the more common double-petaled forms. This fascinating perennial shrub, native to China and Taiwan, is celebrated for its large, showy blooms that famously change color throughout the day. Flowers typically open white or pale pink in the morning, gradually deepen to a rich pink by midday, and often turn deep red or crimson by evening before wilting.
