Hydrangea variegated

A “variegated hydrangea” refers to any Hydrangea variety that has leaves with more than one color, typically green with edges or splashes of white, cream, or yellow. This variegation adds an extra layer of visual interest to these popular flowering shrubs, even when they are not in bloom. Several Hydrangea species and cultivars exhibit variegation, each with its unique characteristics.

One well-known example is Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Mariesii Variegata’, a lacecap type with striking white-edged leaves and delicate pink or blue flowers depending on soil pH. These variegated hydrangeas generally share the same care requirements as their non-variegated counterparts, needing well-drained soil, partial shade (especially in hotter climates), and appropriate pruning based on their blooming habit (whether they bloom on old or new wood).
