Hoya Krimson Princess is a variegated variant of the popular Hoya Carnosa species. Popular from the 1960?s to the ?80s, these lowest-maintenance species of Hoya Carnosa have returned to the limelight. These slow-growing houseplants can happily survive for several. This tropical indoor plant has many nicknames, one of which is ?Wax Plant? for the large, dark green, almond-shaped waxy leaves. It?s also called ?Porcelain flower? for its beautiful, porcelain-like scented flower clusters.
- When hung from a basket, the stems can reach lengths of several feet in time. If grown around a wire loop, the length may depend on the size of the wire.
- They produce beautiful clusters of star-shaped flowers made up of about twenty small pinkish-white flowers with proper care. Blooms in late spring & early summer.
Sunlight
- Your Hoya grows best in bright, indirect sunlight. A south or west-facing window is the ideal spot to place your Krimson Princess, although it will do well in east-facing windows as well.
- Direct sunlight at the end of winter and spring can help encourage flowering in Krimson Princess. It can tolerate a small amount of direct sun in the summer. But if too harsh, the sunlight can burn the leaves.
Watering
- Deeply water your Hoya Plant when the soil is almost dry. It would amount to watering it once or twice a week in the growing season. And once every few weeks in fall and winter.
- Additionally, when the humidity levels are low, you can mist its leaves or use a humidifier or a pebble tray.
- Good drainage is crucial for the Krimson Princess.
Soil:
Your Hoya requires a loose, well-aerated and fast-draining potting mix. An equal combination of perlite, orchid bark, and peat will ensure good drainage.
Fertiliser:
- Feed your Hoya liquid fertilizer diluted to half-strength.
- In the growing seasons, fertilize your Krimson Princess plant every month. Do not fertilize the plant in fall and winter or when in Bloom.
Toxicity:
Your Hoya Plant is considered non-toxic and suitable for spaces with pets and children.
Additional Care Information:
- Watch out for Spider Mites, aphids, mealybugs & scale insects.
- Do not remove the small leafless stubs called spurs, as this is where the new flowers develop.
- Hoyas prefer kept in the same pot for years.
Troubleshooting:
- Leaves burning or turning red ? This may indicate too much sun ? Move your plant back from the sunlight.
- Falling leaves ? Often implies that your Hoya is cold ? Move your Hoya to a warm, humid location.
- Falling buds: Your plant-soil may be too dry or too wet.
- Flowers not blooming ? This indicates that your plant may not be receiving enough nutrients. It could also mean that your plant is not getting enough sunlight. Move it to a brighter spot!
