Description
The Colocasia Violet Fantasy is a hybrid plant with soft, velvety leaves that develop pink lava that spreads to the leaf edges as the plant matures. The plant’s flowers are small and grow between a leaf and the stem. If grown under intense light, the leaves will develop a red tinge.
The Colocasia Violet Fantasy is a large hybrid that can grow in a small pot. It has large leaves that are heart-shaped to arrow-shaped, with thick, fleshy petioles that are green or sometimes purple. The leaves are attached near the center of the leaf and droop downwards.
Colocasia plants are herbaceous perennials with large corms on or just below the ground surface. The leaves are large to very large, 20–150 cm (7.9–59.1 in) long, with a sagittate shape. The elephant’s-ear plant gets its name from the leaves, which are shaped like a large ear or shield.
Colocasia plants are native to eastern Asia and favor grasslands, wetlands, and bog and marsh habitats. They spread via seeds and vegetative corms and are sometimes cultivated as a crop.
