Colocasia is a tuberous plant that is also known as dasheen, elephant’s-ear, and taro. It is a tender perennial that can be used in traditional Asian cuisine. All parts of the plant are poisonous while raw, but once cooked the tubers are edible. 

Colocasia has been known since ancient times for its curative properties. It has been used to treat various ailments including: 

Asthma, Arthritis, Diarrhea, Internal hemorrhage, Neurological disorders, Skin disorders. 

Colocasia needs plenty of warmth, humidity, and moist soil to thrive. Outside, it should be grown in dappled shade, in moist, rich soil in a sheltered spot. If growing as a house plant, it should be given bright but indirect light and a humid atmosphere. 

Colocasia is fleshy, thick, drainage pipe shaped, glabrous, green or tinged with purple or dark purple. The lower third laeve is sheathing. The blade is large 80 cm long and 50 cm wide. The base is sagittate or peltate and the apex is acute

How to Care :

  • Make sure your plants are getting enough water and sunlight.
  • Recommended Soil Media: 40% Garden Soil 25% cocopeat 25% Organic manure/Vermicompost 5% charcoal chips 5% perlite.
  • Fertilize your plants once a month.
  • Avoid over-watering your plants.
  • Cut off any dead or diseased Leaves.
  • Make Sure Pots Have Drainage Holes.
  • Don’t Repot Immediately after received wait for at least 2-3 Days.
