Monstera Pinnatipartita (Mature form)

The mature form of Monstera pinnatipartita is dramatically different from its juvenile state, a transformation that makes it one of the most exciting and sought-after aroids for collectors. While a young plant has solid, oval-shaped leaves with a slightly bullated (bubbly) texture, the mature plant develops deep, elaborate fenestrations (splits and holes) that can extend almost all the way to the midrib. These leaves become large, deeply pinnatifid, and take on a more leathery, textured appearance. This striking change is a natural response to the plant’s instinct to climb towards the light in its native rainforest habitat.

To encourage a Monstera pinnatipartita to reach its mature form, you must replicate its natural growing conditions as closely as possible. Providing a sturdy, tall support, such as a moss pole or a plank, is the most critical step. As the aerial roots attach and the plant climbs, the leaves will begin to grow larger and develop the characteristic fenestrations. Ample bright, indirect light is also essential, as is a well-draining, chunky soil mix.
